To quote the great Benjamin Franklin, “wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.” Truer words have never been spoken. So while I’m not a sommelier or even a certified critic, I know what I like and I enjoy tasting…as often as possible.
This weekend’s pick was a beautiful blend from California with an interesting name. Side note – I often select my wines based on the label, shape of the bottle or the ability to earn extra air miles at the LCBO (pronounced – lickbo). Highly sophisticated – I know.
Anyway, with a name like ‘Cupcake‘ who could resist? My only wish was that I had an actual cupcake to complement the creamy texture and deliciously sweet aromas of dark berries, cocoa and hints of vanilla in my beautiful wine glass.
Overall, I really enjoyed this very, easy-to-drink wine. For you wine snobs out there, tripped up by the fact that it doesn’t say a wine ‘type’ on the label, it’s a blend of grapes – 47% Zinfandel, 29% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petite Sirah.
This delightful bottle is available at the LCBO for under $20. Bring it with you as you start to hit up those holiday soirees. More on that later.
