I am the worst blogger ever so it’s a good thing this isn’t my day job. I get distracted with TV (who else is watching Luke Cage?!), work (I’m a freelancer no more, hi again DDB) and travel.
It’s been a pretty good year and I’ve worked hard to ensure that my 40th would be memorable. In addition to some delightful shoe indulgences (Jimmy Choo, Givenchy and Valentino) I booked an epic solo adventure to Portugal. Long on my list, I was so happy to head there this year, when the country is getting such rave reviews.
I flew Air Canada direct to Lisbon and then hopped the train (I LOVE European rail) to Porto. Beautiful churches, ceramics, port and delicious seafood were the perfect start to my trip. I stayed at the newly renovate Flores Village Hotel and Spa where I was blown away by the kind service, huge suite and amazing location. A few highlights – the Douro Valley Wine Tour, Cafe Majestic, local fish and some amazing architecture that can easily be enjoyed via Hop On, Hop Off tours.
I took off to Lisbon next where I stayed at two beautiful hotels – The International Design Hotel and The Altis Belem Hotel and Spa. They both exceeded my expectations. The centrally located Design Hotel was an easy walk to many of the best sites, shopping and restaurants. The new Hotel, right by the water and Belem Tower boasts a world class spa and beautiful views of the water, the bridge and harbour. While in Lisbon, I took advantage of the tours and made sure I saw Pena Palace, Sintra, Nazera Beach and so many other attractions. I ate more amazing seafood, drank wine, enjoyed delicious cocktails and became pretty addicted to pastries.
Although the weather was unseasonably hot, i was more than ready to head to the Algarve region for a few days on the beach. The Bela Vista Hotel & Spa was perfectly located in Praia da Rocha with views of the Atlantic Ocean. Not to be missed were the Benagil Caves and a quick trip to Praia da Marinha.
I spent one last night in Lisbon at the Teatro Bed and Breakfast which was one of my favourite places to stay. I saw so much in 2 short weeks, but is was among the most memorable experience in all my life.
My insta features tons of pics but here are just a few. I have more trips planned, first New Orleans and then Belize. My travel bug lives on!
